Thank you for visiting my portfolio. This section is designed to tell you a little about me and my mission as a professional school counselor.
I learned at a very young age that I wanted to do something that helped people. I did not know for certain what that might be, but I knew that I was meant to do something meaningful for others. Throughout high school, I took psychology classes that peaked my interest. Therefore, when I attended Ball State University as an undergraduate student I chose to major in psychology. While majoring in psychology I decided I wanted to branch out into other "helping careers". I took classes in social work and sociology and picked up minors in interpersonal relations and human development. I quickly realized, through all of these courses, that my true calling was in counseling. However, it was hard to decide which area of counseling I was meant to work in. Then, I discovered that Ball State University had a graduate program in School Counseling. I met with the program director and realized that this was exactly what I was meant to do. I absolutely adore working with students and I enjoy being able to step into the classrooms. Being a professional school counselor meant that I would be able to combine my love for teaching students with my love for counseling.

Throughout my time in the School Counseling program at Ball State I learned a lot about myself as a school counselor and school counseling in general. Now, I am lucky enough to be working in the field I love and helping students achieve and succeed on a daily basis at Kokomo High School. I am looking forward to continuing my journey and working for the success of all students I come in contact with. Below is a picture of the first bulletin board I made at my internship. This board is full of inspiring quotes for my students. I feel that these quotes say a lot about me as a person and as a school counselor. You can also find my personal mission statement below the picture.
My mission as a professional school counselor is to help all students succeed in their academic, career, and personal/social development by emphasizing diversity and equity practices. I will emphasize the importance of each student's unique abilities and provide each student with the necessary skills to succeed in any environment. Each student will be treated with compassion and kindness and will be given the help that he or she needs.
