skillstreaming
SkillStreaming is a program developed by Dr. Arnold P. Goldstein and Dr. Ellen McGinnis to teach children and adolescents prosocial skills by using a four-part training approach. These four parts include modeling, role-playing, performance feedback, and generalization.
I am currently teaching each elementary classroom (K-5) monthly skills. Each classroom gets the same skill but the lesson is taught to their specific development level. Each skill has a certain amount of steps that must be taught to correctly use the skill.
Since we only are teaching one skill per month, we conducted a needs assessment to determine which skills the teachers felt were most needed in their classrooms. There is also a post-test that was used to determine if the classrooms saw marked improvement in the specific skills taught each month. Attached are some of the skills that I have completed throughout this year and an example of our needs assessment.

At the end of our internship, the other school counseling intern and I collected a small amount of data to see if the SkillStreaming program was working effectively. The results can be found in the following graphs.
The fifth grade teachers asked for three specific extra SkillStreaming lessons during the year. These lessons were on the skills of self-control, problem solving, and bullying. The steps for these skills are attached below.

The fifth grade teachers collected behavioral data for each student that compared their behaviors before our SkillStreaming workshop and their behaviors after our workshop. Below is a graph showing the improvements for each student.
We also implemented SkillStreaming lessons into our middle school curriculum. These lessons were taught to the entire middle school at once in the auditorium. These lessons tended to be more advanced than the lessons taught to the elementary schools.

At the end of the school year, we sent home an article to parents explaining what SkillStreaming was and how we presented different lessons to their students during the school year. The article is attached below.
